CaseWare Working Papers | What to do when a there is an error reading file or contents are corrupted upon opening a CaseView document

When opening a CaseView document there is an error reading the file or documents are corrupt, how do I resolve this?

  Answer:

This issue usually occurs when the CaseView document has become corrupted due to the file not closing properly.

Use the following steps to resolve this issue:
  • Locate the engagement file folder on the machine
  • Sort the folder by size – largest to smallest. (Right-click | View | Details | Click on “Size” column heading until largest files at the top)
  • Locate the two files ending “…FSNG0000ZAFS.cvw” and “…FSNG0000ZAFS.bak”
  • Rename the “…FSNG0000ZAFS.cvw” file to “…FSNG0000ZAFS.old”
  • Rename the “…FSNG0000ZAFS.bak” file to “…FSNG0000ZAFS.cvw”
  • Re-open the engagement file and try to re-open the previously corrupted CaseView file
