How do I change a CaseWare Time file name?

Answer:

We will change the Time File Name, which will then create a duplicate practice with the new name.

NB: Make sure all users are logged out of all Practice Management programs and Run a back up.

Note: For an integrated practice, you will not be able to open your TaxWare and SecWare after the File Name Change. Please read up to the end for a solution to this.

To Change the File Name: Click on Tools | Maintenance | Change File Name…

Enter the new file name: TEST14 (for integrated practices, make sure the name is not more than 6 characters)
Test the connection. (The connection will test successfully if the name is unique and the database can be found on the newtwork.)

Please note the below message: “If you are unsure of the effect this feature may have please contact technical support before continuing. Do you want to continue?”

Once you have clicked on “Yes”, the process will begin.

Once complete click “OK”

Once you are done, browse to the old folder and you will notice that there is new folder (Change Name – Backup).
Rename the folder as you please and you can move it to a desired location on your PC / Server.

Integrated practices

Once you complete the name change and attempt to open TaxWare or SecWare, this is message that will appear:

Copy the folder “Change Name – Backup” and paste it with the old folder not inside the old folder

You need to name the new folder “Change Name – Backup” to the original folder name “GBG2014” and rename the existing folder name with the new CWT name you have created “GBG2014Prac”…
