My Software

You should upgrade to the latest version to take advantage of new features and enhanced performance. Download and authorisation codes are usually pre-populated during the installation process, however we have listed the codes on your license statement too (available in the community for your convenience.) Click on the "compile download package" button and follow the instructions to create your download package.

  • If you have an internal IT department, we recommend you get them involved in the process
  • Add Caseware's files and extensions to your company's list of safe software in your antivirus settings
  • Make sure you have local admin rights on your machine
  • We recommend you have at least 5GB of disk space available
  • It will use approximately 500MB to download
    • Please note that because of the nature of the hotfix it may take up to 6 hours to complete. The hotfix can run in the background as you work
    • More on Caseware system requirements
  • Ensure that you distribute the software to all the users in your firm prior to the license expiry date so that no downtime is experienced
  • The download of the Cloud Installer only needs to be done ONCE
  • Once you have downloaded the Cloud Installer, this can be saved in a place that is accessible to all the other Caseware users in your company
  • Take note that if the users will be running the Cloud Installer from a server, it will be slower to respond. As such, we suggest the Cloud Installer be copied to the user desktop to speed up the installation
  • Users need to do the following to install Caseware the software on their PCs:
    • Select the products that you want to download
    • Double click on the Setup file located in the Cloud Installer
    • This will extract the contents of the folder and open up the Caseware Working Papers Setup Wizard
    • Move through steps 1 - 4 by clicking on the green Next button.
    • You need to Accept the End User Licence Agreement in Step 2
    • You will need the Download code in Step 3
    • Once you have installed Caseware Working Papers, you need to open Caseware and register the software by using your unique authorisation code

The silent installation is an alternative software deployment method, which allows for the installation and registration of Caseware software and templates to be done in the background. It is done by the execution of a batch file either manually or via logon script. This allows for an efficient deployment of the software, requiring no user intervention, as well as allowing firms to deploy to a large number of users at the same time.

A Silent Installation is a .bat file, accompanied by configuration files of Caseware and the standard Caseware Africa templates, that when executed, will install and register these products without user intervention. If you have a firm template, your Firm Champion will have to replace the standard CaseWare Africa templates with the Firm Templates.

This process requires a technical IT resource within the firm to own the process and have the relevant firm admin rights/authority and work together with the Firm Champion with regards to the Firm Template.

Even when doing a silent installation and registration, we still recommend that individual users complete their user specific information in their Caseware software, after completing the silent installation, as best practice for firm licence management.

The latest Caseware Africa template series offers a much greater level of automation that is hoped to allow firms the necessary flexibility without the need to go into design mode. Where earlier versions of the template do not support all of the firms needs, we wish to address this in the template as opposed to encouraging changes by the user.

Many firms support this approach and have requested that we do not make the design mode password available on this version.

An interim mode, called builder mode, allows a much greater level of quick and easy modification, without the required skill levels of design mode.

Recommendation

We recommend that:

  1. Firms attempt to do away with or at least limit their “personal preference” changes. This will result in far greater productivity and ease of use.
  2. If change is necessary, builder mode is used as the first port of call to make changes to areas not yet catered for by the template. A “Caseware champion” should perform these changes, so that it can be fed into the firm’s template and back to Caseware Africa.
  3. Firms do not allow users access to “Design mode”.

The approach for the latest templates is to provide users with the code for Builder mode to make necessary “obscure” changes. We want these requests to be reported to info@casewareafrica.com so that they can be built into the template where appropriate.

Access to Builder mode and Design mode is recorded

Any file that has had either Builder mode or Design mode enabled, is clearly marked as such on the Control page of the financial statements and elsewhere.

Important notes on Design mode changes

  • Do not make changes that are already available via Firms Settings. If changes are made in Design mode that should have been made in Firm Settings (e.g. font type and size), these changes will be lost when a new file is created or when a file is Re-packaged as the global Firm settings is re-applied.
  • If changes need to be made in design mode that are not included in Firms settings:
    • These requests should be reported to casewareafrica.support@adaptit.com so that they can be built into the template where appropriate.
    • The style sheet of the line being modified needs to be changed. The template is designed with specific style sheets. These style sheets apply certain pre-defined properties to lines or sections using the same style. Thus if changes are made in design mode without changing this style sheet, this could be lost when a new file is created or when a file is Repackaged.

Please note

The Design Mode password is provided upon receiving permission from the firm’s Partner, Director or Chief Financial Officer as there are risks associated with any modification made within design mode.

The understanding that access to Design Mode makes it difficult for us to support the file, as we cannot track the changes made or ascertain the cause of any errors to scripts resulting from changes to formula in design mode. Such changes may fall outside the scope of our support plan.

Please ensure that if the Design Mode password is changed from the one provided, it should be kept safe. This password is encrypted within the financial statements and will not be able to decrypted, unless the file is sent to Caseware International. The turn-around time is 1 – 2 weeks for decryption of the design mode password.

Please provide the information of the staff member in your organisation from whom approval has been obtained with regards to the design mode password.
